On the 9th of October, my beautiful mother Val would have turned 90.
Sadly, she didn’t make it.
Both of my parents died when I was in my 20s and there’s not a day that goes by when I don’t think of them.
In my experience, grief is unending and overwhelming. I don’t think I’ll ever truly recover from the death of my parents.
My mother was a film buff and I was raised on a diet of 1940s/1950s films.
Whenever I want to connect with my late mother – I’ll watch old movies from that era. It is a way to feel her presence and know that I am safe.
On Mum’s 90th birthday, I celebrated her AMAZING life by watching three films from the 1940s.
I have listed them below.
The Razors Edge (1946)
Starring Tyrone Power and the very beautiful Gene Tierney. Possibly one of the most amazing films I have ever seen. This film is available to watch for free on YouTube.
Lured (1947)
EVERYBODY knows that I love film director Douglas Sirk (king of the melodrama).
State Fair (1945)
I have watched this movie over and over and over. I used to watch it with Mum and Dad. When they died, I’d watch it on Christmas Eve and now I watch it once a year. It’s a musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein. I definitely feel my parents when I watch it. And you can’t beat Jeanne Craine and Dana Andrews!
Happy birthday to my beautiful Mum. I will celebrate you and Dad until the day I die. ❤❤ Thank you for being my parents and believing in me.
