Being a sex toy reviewer isn’t what it’s cracked up to be

Sex toy reviewing sounds AMAZING theoretically. I mean, who doesn’t want to receive luxury sex toys (some worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars).

I went as far as one can go. I worked with the biggest luxury brands and sex toy companies in the world, in addition to having my reviews published in famous men’s magazines. I also made some decent coin along the way as an adult copywriter. So, the experience wasn’t all bad.

However, today I would like to talk about the downsides of sex toy reviewing.  I have collated a list below.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

Before I became a “professional” sex toy reviewer, I would write reviews on my website explicitly – often uploading nudes or pics of me using the toys.

Once I started doing collaborations with sex toy companies who were bringing in a revenue of 90million per year.

I had to stop the profanity. Practice inclusiveness. And basically, pretend that I was someone that I wasn’t.

OBLIGATION

Before I began reviewing sex toys for money, exposure, bylines and free products. I used to review sex toys, which I had purchased with my own money.

When you purchase something with your own money and write about it. You don’t feel obligated to be positive about the product.

When I became a “professional” sex toy reviewer however, all of that had to change. Luxury sex toy companies don’t send you free products from the other side of the world so you can write a negative review about them.

And if you were to do so – you can bet your bottom dollar – you would never get to collaborate with them again. I would often tell my readers that a sex toy was better than it actually was.  And I felt guilty and fraudulent.

AFFILIATE MARKETING

You will often see sex bloggers with affiliate links from certain sex brands they promote. And when someone purchases from their link – they receive a commission. This is all well and good, when the brand (in question) is legit and above board.  But I am owed money from various sex toy brands – who have never paid me out.  It is disgraceful. And criminal. I have now removed all links from these companies. They should be ashamed of themselves! The only trustworthy affiliate marketing (in my personal experience) is Amazon.  So, I continue to use their affiliate links on my website. Sex bloggers BEWARE!

WRITING FREEDOM

Very few writers have experienced the level of censorship and cancellation that I have from Big Tech and the mainstream media. When you have millions of followers and big tech closes you down, you can fight big tech in numbers. But when you’re a little person (like me) and your artist pages get closed down due to censorship. They are shutting down hundreds of hours of brand dedication and all the followers that you have accumulated.

My point is, as a writer, creative and artist.  I need to have freedom.  I don’t need to be second-guessing myself all the time. I cannot work like that.

WAR ZONE

The reason I stopped reviewing sex toys is because the sex blogging industry generally has become like a warzone. There are factions and there is a lot of anger and fighting amongst sex bloggers. Something that should feel fun and loose and free has become militant, judgmental and full of rules and regulations.  I honestly don’t need the stress.

**

These days, I buy my own fucking sex toys and focus intently on fun and orgasmic pleasure.  If I want to criticise a company or a sex product.  I fucking will – UNAPOLOGETICALLY.  I don’t miss sex toy reviewing one bit!
