Filly follies

Vanessa de Largie | The Spectator | November 6, 2018

KILL ALL FEMINISTS.

ALL FEMINISTS MUST DIE.

KILL ALL FEMINISTS.

ALL FEMINISTS MUST DIE.

I DIPPED A QUILL IN A SEWER OF FEMINIST TEARS AND…

Shit. Sorry.

You walked in on me writing a manifesto.

I’m supposed to be writing a column.

I’ll start now…

Cup Day is upon us.

A time to get trashed, get laid and have a flutter on the gee-gees.

But predictably, Fairfax Media have used the world-famous horse-race as an excuse to spruik victimhood.

This time — a fembot is triggered about ‘a word’.

And the word is…

FILLIES!

In a column published in the Sydney Morning Herald, the writer states:

Horse racing has done much to advance female achievers in recent years. But at Monday’s launch of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, speaking about Oaks Day, the masters of ceremonies, who included a woman, mentioned at least twice how the action was “all about the fillies”, both on and off the track.

The author continues:

Calling women “fillies”, the term for a young female horse, in reference to their attendance at the track, reduces their participation in the sport to that of play things and walking coat hangers, and does little to advance gender equality.

Whaaaaaat?? OMG.

Umm, no.

The term ‘fillies’ is merely racing slang, that’s been used by punters and staff alike in the racing industry across Australia, for decades. It’s neither insulting or derogatory.

Sexually successful men are called studs. (And that’s an establishment where horses are kept for breeding).

Yet we don’t hear any blokes having a whinge — do we?!

The columnist continues:

We don’t get around calling men “geldings”, so why do we still tolerate this language when it comes to women?

You haven’t heard a man called a gelding? Gee, you’re obviously not a kinkster then!

How about stallion?

Cock?

Rooster?

Bull?

Rabbit?

Dog?

I’ve heard men labelled all these names and worse.

The writer continues:

Sheilas, chicks, birds, girls, woozas, bitches. They are all slang words to describe women that can be playful – even affectionate in certain circumstances – but are often degrading, demeaning and, in the worst cases, downright abusive.

Wait a tick. I’m sorry to stop you in your woke smoke.

But ANY word can be degrading, demeaning or outright abusive — depending on tonality and context.

I mean — perhaps we should bail on words and start grunting again?

Anyway, I’ve gotta go.

I’ve got to finish my manifesto.

KILL ALL FEMINISTS.

ALL FEMINISTS MUST DIE.

KILL ALL FEMINISTS.

ALL FEMINISTS MUST DIE.
