Okay, so your boyfriend just dumped you, you’ve stacked on 10 pounds, you’re PMT and you have a massive zit on the end of your nose.
But please don’t fear, cos the CHICK FLICK is here.
I don’t know about other girls but I often console myself with a cheesy, corny, predictable chick flick.
Sometimes it’s nice not to have to think too much. Sometimes it’s nice to get entangled in someone else’s drama rather than focusing so intently on my own.
Get your box of tissues out girls because the five films listed below are real tear jerkers.
Starring Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts. This movie is about two women adjusting to their evolving roles as women. I won’t give too much away but the last hour gets me every time, I become a fully fledged cry baby.
Starring Bette Midler and John Goodman. I love this film, it is a remake of Stella Dallas. It is the story of a mothers love and a mothers sacrifice. Bette is brilliant, just brilliant. The whole cast works. This tearjerker will turn you into a blubbering wreck.
I caught this film at the Como in South Yarra about ten years ago. It is such a beautiful little film. Directed by Isabel Coixet. Starring Sarah Polley, Mark Ruffalo and Deborah Harry. It’s about a young woman who finds out she has a terminal disease and sets out to do a list of things before she dies. It’s very touching, sad but inspiring.
An oldie but a goodie. If you haven’t seen it, you must. It is a classic. It is one of the greatest love stories caught on film, just ask any film critic. Starring the dashingly debonair Cary Grant.
Another oldie made in the 50’s. It is actually my favourite film ever. I have raved about it, in my other articles. If you don’t cry in Juanita Moore’s scene, perhaps you are a sociopath.
