Basil House Thai & Vietnamese Restaurant

Vanessa de Largie | Topic Media | September 14, 2013

Basil House is located at 461 High Street, Preston – a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of the Preston Markets. It’s not my usual haunt but with a rumbling tummy screaming out for Vietnamese cuisine, I decided to give it a shot.

Basil House gets a huge tick for cleanliness. The tables, chairs, floors and bathrooms are spotless. The staff and management at Basil House are friendly, smiling and prompt with their table service.

With only half an hour to spare, I wanted a quick in and out dining experience and decided to order the Grilled Pork, Spring Roll & Vermicelli, priced at a reasonable $9.50.

When the dish arrived around 10 minutes later, my Basil House experience decided to take a turn down “Very Average Lane.’

The disappointing meal I ordered

The carrots, coriander and cucumber weren’t fresh, the pork tasted as if it had been cooked with cheap oil (possibly some time ago) and the spring roll, was sliced up and thrown in. I was hungry, so I ate as much as I could bear.

I really want to like Basil House because it has so much else going for it but the dish I ordered was poor. I have read other reviews, raving about dishes, so I would say Basil House is worth a punt, just don’t order what I ordered.
