Thirty-five years ago today, Annie opened on Broadway.
To celebrate, Producer John Frost and Annie’s Executive Producer Walter van Nieuwkuyk announced the 24 children who have been cast in the Melbourne production.
Over 1000 Melbourne hopefuls registered to be cast. Only 250 were invited to audition and only 165 were shortlisted, with 24 talented young Melbournians making the final cut.
I was fortunate enough to attend the ‘revealing of the Melbourne cast’ at The Regent Theatre.

The three girls cast as Annie are Monique Heath, Hattie Hook and Caitlin Marks. The girls were all very excited to be a part of the production after coming back for repeat auditions, some up to five times.
Annie, starring Anthony Warlow, Nancye Hayes, Todd McKenney, Chloe Dallimore, Julie Goodwin and Alan Jones is sure to light up The Regent Theatre from May 24.
Annie remains one of the most beloved musicals of all time, with its toe- tapping hits such as It’s the Hard Knock Life, You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile and the unforgettable, totally catchy, Tomorrow.

Weekend Notes would like to congratulate the successful cast members and wish them the best for their run.
