The Blackman Hotel

The Blackman Hotel Suite

Vanessa de Largie | Topic Media | January 28, 2012

If you are an art enthusiast or an artist looking for a weekend escape, the Art Series group of hotels is definitely the place for you.

I booked a deluxe studio suite at The Blackman in St Kilda Road and was most impressed. I recommended The Blackman to a friend and after taking my advice, she called to say it was the most unique hotel she had ever stayed in.

The Blackman Hotel (Art Series Melbourne) is adorned with the works of Sydney born artist, Charles Blackman.

``I am a romantic painter, (but not sweet) – oh no. That’s wrong. Dreams are what you’re made of, and very often nightmares, too. A dream is quintessentially a reality when it is fulfilled.”

~Charles Blackman~

My deluxe studio suite had breathtaking views of Melbourne, with not one, but two balconies to soak up the luxury.

Each deluxe studio suite includes:

A 42 inch HD Flat TV

Art Channel

High speed internet

pod docking station

Not to mention an art library and being surrounded by luxury prints.

Could one ask for anymore?

Talk about being inspired and tantilising one’s creativity.

The Blackman is built within the Airlie Mansion on St Kilda Road. I found it a little bit difficult to locate the entrance (entry is via Arthur Street), but apart from that the experience was positive.

There are two other hotels that are part of the Art Series Group. The Cullen Hotel, located in Prahran, honouring Archibald Prize Winner Adam Cullen and The Olsen Hotel located in South Yarra, honouring John Olsen, who was awarded ‘The Order Of Australia’ in 2001 for his service to the arts.

I will definitely be returning to The Blackman and look forward to checking out The Cullen and The Olsen in time too.

For your next weekend escape, take yourself to one of The Art Series Hotels – you won’t be disappointed.

Enjoy.
